Lib Dem Playground Plan Swings into Action12.00.00am GMT Mon 18th Jan 2010
Liberal Democrats on Sheffield City Council have welcomed progress on their £2m plan to create and improve 23 playgrounds across Sheffield. With 11 of the sites due to be completed by April 2010, many local people can now see work beginning in their local park. One of sites includes Hillsborough Park , at which the new wooden uprights for the new 'climbing forest' can already be seen. Karen Southwood, a local Hillsborough campaigner and the Hillsborough Ward Lib Dem candidate for the 2010 local elections, said: "It's great to see work starting on the new playground equipment in Hillsborough Park thanks to the Lib Dem Council investing in our area. I know that many local children can't wait to use these new first class play facilities." Sites in phase one of the plan include Beaver Hill, Rolling Acres, Richmond Park, Charnock Rec, Fox Hill, Millhouses, Hillsborough, Darnall, Phillimore, Dorset St and Beechwood Road. An additional 12 sites in phase two will be completed by April 2011. Cllr Shaffaq Mohammed, Lib Dem Cabinet member for the Local Environment added "It's exciting to see our plan to deliver 23 playgrounds swing into action. Communities right across Sheffield , many of whom had been ignored under Labour, can look forward to seeing brand new state of the art play facilities in their local area."
