RECYCLING SITE RECYCLED THANKS TO LOCAL LIB DEM12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 7th Apr 2009
A popular recycling site at Somerfield supermarket on Ecclesall Road has been brought back thanks to the work of a local Liberal Democrat councillor. The supermarket, which is next to St Williams Catholic Church, had the recycling facility removed 18 months ago. Since then Cllr Mike Reynolds, Councillor for Ecclesall Ward, has been working hard to get it replaced. Since the site closed local people in Ecclesall have had to travel all the way to Waitrose supermarket on the inner ring road, or to Sainsbury's at Abbeydale in order to recycle, so many people may have given up. Cllr Reynolds has now convinced Somerfield to replace the facility which he says is the 'best solution' for local people. He said: "I'm delighted that we have managed to get the recycling point back at Somerfield, but now we need lots of people to use the facility so that recycling will be extended from glass to plastics, paper and cardboard. On the well worn principle of 'use it, or lose it', I hope that local people will show their support for recycling.'
