LIB DEMS PUTTING TENANTS IN THE DRIVING SEAT12.00.00am GMT Mon 2nd Feb 2009 Lib Dems have announced that local tenants across Sheffield will get a say on how extra investment should be spent in their area through a citywide vote. In a ground breaking move tenants will be able to vote on how the extra money should be spent in their local area. The Spring edition of a magazine which is delivered to every Council tenant in Sheffield will inform tenants how they can get involved. The extra investment of £600K has been found by directing the local ALMO to cut down on management costs. As part of the move it has been made clear that Sheffield Home's front line services must be protected. Councillor Bob McCann, Liberal Democrat Cabinet member for Housing and Sustainable, Safer Communities, said: - "Our initiative will lead to local tenants being able to decide how this extra investment should be spent in their area. This could mean extra work on preventing anti-social behaviour or extra environmental clean ups. It will be down to local tenants to decide." "I would urge all local tenants to take part in this ground breaking move. Unlike Labour who want to control everything from the Town Hall, we want to ensure that tenants decide what local services they receive."
