Sheffield's Liberal Democrat Group has won some key votes at the Town Hall

Sheffield's Liberal Democrat Group has won some key votes in Septembers Council meeting. As a result of proposals laid down by the Lib Dems the Council has adopted new policy on a number of issues including housing, protecting the green belt and the way in which future elections are conducted.

On housing the Lib Dems proposal for the council to come clean on the future of Sheffield's social housing stock was passed. It means that the controlling Labour group will have to present a report that confirms the £900m funding gap for keeping council homes up to a decent standard after 2010 and reveals what solutions the council are looking at..

Votes where also won which will give greater protection to Sheffield's green belt and mean the council discourages development within existing gardens. Finally. Lib Dems where also successful in their call for the council to have a veto on any future voting pilots.
