Sheffield is on the shortlist for a 'super-casino'

Sheffield's Liberal Democrats, the major opposition group on Sheffield City Council, have given a cautious welcome to the news that Sheffield has been included on the super casino shortlist. They have noted that concerns over its location and possible social impact need to be addressed.

Councillor Paul Scriven, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, said: -

"We give a cautious welcome to the news that Sheffield is included on the shortlist. We recognise the potential benefits a super casino could bring to Sheffield but we do have concerns over any potential social impact"

"If Sheffield is successful in obtaining a licence to develop one of the super casinos then we must also see an appropriate level of resources provided to deal with any adverse effects. We must also think carefully the potential site of a super casino as I believe it would be inappropriate to place it within or close to large residential areas"
