Councillor compliments locals on housing development proposal victory10.13.50am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 7th Apr 2006
Developers have withdrawn a controversial proposal for a large-scale housing development in Dore. Liberal Democrat councillor for Dore and Totley, Keith Hill, has complimented local residents on their part in the successful campaign against the plan. Persimmon Homes had planned to develop 89 residential dwellings on the site of the old King Edward Upper School on Furniss Avenue in Dore. However, the developer has now withdrawn their application in the face of a strong local campaign by residents and Cllr Keith Hill. Cllr Hill has run surgeries in the local area, been responding to his heavy postbag on the issue and has written numerous letters of objection against the planning application. He is delighted that the proposal has now been withdrawn and has complimented local residents. Councillor Keith Hill, Liberal Democrat member for Dore and Totley, said: - "I'm delighted with the news that the developers have withdrawn the planning application. I'd like to compliment local residents for supporting the successful campaign against the proposal" "The development was wholly unsuitable, out of character, out of scale and didn't respond to the needs and aspirations of the Dore community. I can only support development where it is in character, in scale and sensitive to the local environment"
