The Labour Council are wasting money on bureaucracy

Sheffield's Labour Council have come under attack for rubber-stamping 'absurd' management costs within one of their taxpayer funded quangos. Labour bosses have approved the appointment of a new fat-cat manager to administer a budget just a fraction of the managers salary.

The Inclusion and Cosmopolitan board within Sheffield First is set to spend £50K on employing a new manager, despite the fact their annual budget comes to less than half that amount at £20K.

Liberal Democrats have condemned the move and have highlighted it as just one of many examples of bureaucracy gone mad within taxpayer funded quangos and the Council. Lib Dems are calling on Labour to reverse their decision and refuse to make the appointment.

Cllr Paul Scriven, Leader of the Sheffield Liberal Democrats, said: -

"This is a classic case of how Labour in Sheffield are wasting taxpayers money on backroom fat-cats rather than front line services"

"There can be no justification for having a manager on £50K a year, paid for by taxpayers, administering a budget of £20K. If this were proposed within the private sector arena it would be laughed out the office or the person responsible sacked on the spot! But this example is typical of the way that quangos are operating under Labour"

"The Liberal Democrats on the Council are committed to cutting out the mushrooming bureaucracy within the Council and its taxpayer funded Quango partnerships. Our current civic leaders are happy to waste thousands of pounds worth of public money by appointing fat-cats first and asking questions later"
