Lib Dems urge City leaders to get out the blocks quickly in bid for share of the Olympic windfall12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 6th Jul 2005 The Liberal Democrats on Sheffield City Council have called for Sheffield's civic leaders to get out the blocks quickly to secure the City the best possible deal for the London 2012 Olympics. They have called for a 'marketing offensive' to make sure Sheffield is at the forefront of organisers plans. Cllr Paul Scriven, Leader of the Sheffield Liberal Democrats, said: - "We must get out the blocks quickly to make sure that the organisers know just how much Sheffield can offer to the London 2012 package. We have tailor-made facilities, such as the English Institute of Sport, that would be perfect for the financing, development and planning of the games and also for the athletes training" "We must launch a marketing offensive to get Sheffield at the forefront of the plans. There will be many other Cities competing for a slice of the windfall, but I believe Sheffield should be amongst the frontrunners. As a City of sport we should be heavily involved in the 2012 event"
