Local Councillors
Stannington has three Lib Dem city councillors. Learn more about them below:
Name: Cllr David Baker
Years as councillor: 22 Term Ends: May 2014
Bio: In 1982, David reluctantly agreed to be a council candidate having delivered some leaflets for the then Liberal Party. Thirty years later, he has been Lord Mayor, Deputy Leader of the Council and still has many ideas for the City and his area. With a background in hotels and catering and experience in management of business and industry, David has now totalled twenty years as a Sheffield city councillor. In 2001, he became only the second Liberal Democrat Lord Mayor of Sheffield and from 2008 to 2011 he served as Deputy Leader of the Council. In this role he was responsible for creating new ‘Community Assemblies’, which took power away from Town Hall and handed it back to local people. Away from delivering leaflets, he loves to fish, research family history and read about local history. He is also a member of Sheffield Wildlife Trust.
